I just found some old cokins I've had since the 80s (used w/ Minolta x-700) and wondered if anyone has/is using them with their digital camera.

I have some Cokins and have used them recently. I have some ND and graduated filters that I mainly use it for.

Not used Cokin filters since the 80's myself on my T90's but I have been looking at using filters recently, however I am only looking at using ND graduated filters and possibly a graduated tobacco filter for bringing out clouds in landscapes.
I tended to over use them in order to produce "arty" effects but it was a good learning process. I copied a few wedding photos with a heart shaped vignette and they did transform some rather mediocre shots. Starbursts could also raise a number of shots when shooting motorcycles with lots of chrome highlights. Today a number of effects can be done with more control in photoshop. The main thing to remember is that as these effects are done in camera, you are pretty much stuck with the effect, although with digital you can review the end result immediately to see what works and what doesn't.
I would encourage you to experiment, as digital is a lot cheaper than film and with the results being available straightaway you will be able to gauge the results whether to continue with this aspect of photography, if it improves your shooting then go for it.

I haven't actually used them, but I also have a bunch from T90 days which I may experiment with when I have time, but probably only very limited use, and mostly not the most creative ones. I believe digital PP can recreate most of the effects with greater subtlety and control, while preserving the original image.

Main problem I have is that most of my lens filters are a lot bigger than the Cokin P format - the biggest filter size when I used my T90's was 67mm now with faster glass it's gone up to 82mm so I will have to upgrade to a larger size but at least with some step down adapters it means only one set of filters and holder

Thanks, are there adapters to wed the filter holder to a 24-70 or larger (70-200)

I realized that also. most of the filters are for 52mm. That was why I wondered if there is an adapter that would work for pixs that I want to crop. But your idea of PP is the best. I haven't used that much so look forward to experimenting with it.

I still use some of my Cokin filters (ND, grads, special effects) with my DSLR and other digital cameras, although I keep them around mostly for my film shooting.

I tried an infrared filter on my Cokin and got so frustrated I bought a refurbished Nikon D80 and had it converted to IR. Love it! No more Cokin.

I still use some of mine, with a D700 & D80 -- seem to work just fine when needed. :)
