His retouching / reconstruction skills are impressive. But I fail to see where colorizing is reconstruction of a photograph that was never shot in color in the first place after the fact. Colorizing it self is just a artistic treatment. Same as converting color to B&W.
And there is nothing new about colorizing black & white photographs. It was done with oil pastels and oil pencils by hand for well over 100 years and still is done. I never had the steady hand for it or a desire to colorize any of my own photos, but I did try a few times. I had a set of Marshall's Oil Pencils that got little use. But I do have a few impressive colorized photographs (one image) of my Mom from the Late-Nineteen Thirties to Early-Nineteen Forties. Luckily the original is still in nearly perfect condition. I do not know the history of the image though. What is colorized at the time by the same photo studio or done much later by someone else.

I remember getting photos taken and there were a couple young girls using some sort of materials to color it. Didn't take very long and as I recall the colors were pretty good. Might of been a photo booth. I was very young at the time. Even being young I was very impressed.
