Its Bokeh time!
In photography bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. Bokeh is "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light. (Wikipedia). For this challenge you will need to know about aperture and focal length and how they work to create a shallow depth of field. This article explains what you need to know to capture bokeh. I am still working on the cutout mentioned in the article. Articles mention certain size lenses - use what you have. I used my 18-200mm zoom (tripod is a must) and placed my subject about 4-6 feet in front of the camera and the backdrops about 4-5 feet behind the subject. Sometimes I needed an LED flashlight to light the subject only. Bokeh isnt just for Christmas lights - you can produce it in nature, portraits and more. Watch for additional articles. Tell us how you got your bokeh.

Bokeh in Nature
Pure Bokeh - really fresh - made it today; green miniature Christmas lights over a black backdrop (hung the drape on a hanger, the hanger on a hook and draped the lights from behind. Manual "out of focus" - Can be used for a PP backdrop some day.

Have a cup of Bokeh with me (article talks about relating the bokeh to the subject)
this will be a challenge ... later

Awesome examples Pat. Also, wonderful links. Will work hard to find some time to create something.

Thanks for hosting another Challenge Pat.
Here's my first one. Taken in Swindon, UK.

This one was taken at Coate water in Swindon. Focusing on the red branches & the flower (what's left of it) you can see that a form of Bokeh is in the background created by bushes.

Haveago - thanks so much for posting 2 very different styles of bokeh. Thanks for "doing the bokeh" !

My 3rd Bokeh is in front of the subject, well I think it's a form of Bokeh. Created by the subject behind is in focus, (the Swan) leaving the foreground out of focus.

thanks Pat for the encouragement ...
Hi Pat! I have been looking forward to this! Here are a couple I did this afternoon...I am just about to play some more. I did a similar setup to yours on the last two. The 1st one was taken last night while out taking Xmas pics. I had to almost lay on the ground to get low enough! LOL! The owner quietly came out to see if I was stealing from him....He was very nice and was happy that I was taking pictures of his decorations. :-)
While I got high this afternoon, I practiced some Bokeh.
I did not center the principal focus, shot at f/2.8 and right up close

And yes, you can have "foreground" bokeh

I see spots of light but not sure they are bokeh because they are so focused. Bokeh or not, looks like a giant ice cube with lots of color in and around it and it looks pretty and confusingly cool! You are so full of creativity,
