Hi UHH, I will be purchasing the D810 in the very very near future! My Old Trusted D700 will stay Warm and Safe as my Reliable Backup. I use the Hoodman 18 gig cards that have never failed me yet. My Question is? Since I will have much larger files in Raw or RawS 9mg, how big of a Compact flash card should I Buy 64, 128, or larger? How about the SD cards do you buy the 256? I do not plan on Video. What Do you think of the Sandisk Pro. Or a Good Quality Cards. Thanks I am abit lost with this card issue. Thanks would always treasure your Thoughts. I have been receiving discounts from Nikon $300 off the camera! And that is before Christmas, I am waiting for the early January sales, when people do not have $$$ to spend on Camera, Just Waiting for that Special Deal!!!! Best of Health and Happiness During the Holiday Season

When I got my D800e last year, i had the same quandary. I ended up getting a 32GB Hoodman Steel and it works well. I have since got a Sandisk 64GB and it's now my primary card. I've had no problems with either of them. If it's like the D800, it also can use SD cards and I have a 16GB card in my camera that I use exclusively for video. Hope this helps.

I use 32GB SD and CF cards without any difficulty. If I shot RAW + Jpeg fine I might feel differently. I use the second card strictly for overflow. I don't, or haven't, recorded video.

Bought D810 in October and have used 32GB SanDisk Extreme Pro cards. Camera takes both a CF and SD card and the speed you need depends on type of shooting you do. I mostly do landscapes or macro shots so I am not as concerned about speed as some people might be. This size card will hold 375-395 raw files comfortably. I do not like to put everything on one card so 32GB is large enough for me.

For SDcards I use the Lexar Pro 32GB 600X models. When I am shooting wildlife in Yellowstone I add a Lexar Pro 128GB 1066X CF card because I never want to worry about running out of storage in the wilderness. I always carry two spares of each in a card wallet.

You can download the D810 User's Manual from Nikon's web site.
http://download3.nikonimglib.com/archive1/Uslma00vmWju01F4NIw08vXsPQ61/D810FM_DL(En)01.pdf
The number of images that can be stored on a 16GB memory card are shown on pg 489. Just multiply those numbers by 2, 4, or 8 to see the number of images that can be stored on 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB cards.

I use a 32GB CF card with overflow onto a 128GB SD card.

Nikon recommends Sandisk, Lexar, Panosonic, or Toshiba cards as the ones with be best fallout rate and if you have issues with you camera writing to or card corruption, they will not service it under warranty unless you can show that the problem occurs with a card of one of those brands. I use the fastest I can in either Lexar or Sandisk and have had great luck with both. I tried a PNY card and it worked for one session then failed and refused to reformat. Camera kept saying it was empty but I put one of the approved brands in and it began working.. Have tried the PNY in my card reader and it is definitely bad. I will never purchase PNY again. Lesson learned.

Thanks we spend plenty of$$ on these camera I want to buy the right card. I lost an entire day of photos from Paris because of a defective card. That was an Experiance I hope never happens again. So I carry a few cards and change up daily.

I do too... I have a D7100 but I use 32gb cards because I don't want to lose 6,000 shots on a trip.. I also upload at least once a day from the card to the usb drive and Wi-Fi WD if I can.. I don't want to lose a single shot but I really don't want to lose an entire trip because I put them all on 1 card and didn't get any of them off, so I rotate cards and upload to the external and cloud at least once a day.
