Nikon D7100 shutter priority "freeze-up"

Suddenly my shutter priority controls have frozen: I can only choose between "320s" (or whatever flash sync speed I pick) and various bulb speeds and the aperture stays locked at its maximum. All other modes appear to work properly. I've tried changing lens, re-setting button functions, re-setting to default settings and generally pushing every button I think might help.

Anyone else have this problem or--even better--a solution?

What ISO is the camera at? By the way reset does NOT reset everything it just resets certain menu setting.. Your manual will tell you which settings are controlled by the 2 button reset. But I haven't seen the shutter on mine "freeze" except when I had inadvertently set ISO too low and the camera couldn't find an f/stop fast enough for the ISO/ shutter speed... just verify that. I am not sure from there.

ISO at 800 but I also tried higher settings. It was working fine in the morning (shooting flying birds) and then suddenly stopped. I've been using "P" as a workaround.

I pretty sure you have inadvertently gotten a setting it doesn't like but not sure which one. If you don't have any settings in U1 or U2 try them.. Also ( and I am pretty sure you've already done this, go through and re-verify each menu setting in the Wrench, and all of your shooting modes.. Get the manual out and look especially at the list of settings that the 2 button reset does NOT reset and look at them. It sounds like 2 are conflicting or locking it.... I will get my manual and see what I can find.

Also, in the shooting menu (camera) there is a reset shooting menu.. try that but it will take that menu back to out of the box settings.

I checked the manual for your camera: Page 49 says "Shutter speed can be set to "x250" or to values between 30 s and 1/8000 s."
Your 320s falls far outside that range.
I don't know if that is the problem but might be worth looking into.

Oh, wait a minute. You mean you have set your shutter at 1/320s. Have a look at page 244 of your manual - in the box is something about "fixing shutter speed".
Page 245 has something about compatible flash units.

Could you have hit the lock switch on the back by accident?
