My Plustec 7500i slide and film scanner worked great on m old XP machine but has issues on Windows 8.1 64 bit. The Silverfast 6.6 software will hangup intermittently. Any else have this scanner and worked the bugs out using windows 7 or 8?
32 bit does not play well on 64 bit machines especially 8.1.
Windows 7 does play well with 32 or 64 bit.
See if your Mfr has a 64 bit software.
windows 8.0 or 8.1 wont let my epson flatbed scanner work either. Even when windows 7 came out it wouldn't work , until I found someone that made his own driver for my model , than it worked on windows 7 . To make it work on windows 8 or 8.1 , I have to use the Vuescan download program . It's not free . Here is a address you can download a free trial , and right now they are offering a $10 discount on the standard and pro if you want to check it out and can't find a driver .

The MFr had a 64 bit driver but it didn't work with the version of Silverfast software that came with the scanner. I followed their instructions and loaded the 32 bit driver but still had issues. Then after reading your input I tried running the Silverfast software in Windows seven mode and everything works except the quickscan button on the scanner. that really isn't a problem I simply start from a short cut on the desktop.
Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion I may try that alternative software.

I had a tonne of trouble with it even installing on a W7-64 machine! Web help was of not much use; perhaps would be to someone more used to fiddling with drivers etc. -- which is the problem! Even the 32 bit installers for the driver on plustek-silverfast sites did not work.
So, I took the lo-tech approach. I installed the D$%@# thing in the XP-virtual mode and it worked well since then. One minor irritation is that each time you have to 'attach' the film scanner by clicking on it, under the USB button at the top of the Virtual XP screen.
I recall that the installation instructions were rather unhelpful even when I was using it on a dedicated XP computer, a few years ago.
A rather powerful software and scanner which remained crippled due to absence of painless implementation (unlike even the epson perfection 3490 photo flatbed I use for general scanning (documents, rarely for negatives) as backup.
