Painting my camera: OK I know this sounds funny. But it seems that everyone has a black camera. They may not know how to use it, but its black.
My Rebel is silver, but the battery pack and the lens are black. Some times it makes me feel like the back cat with the white strip on its back.
I would need to do a good job of masking to cover up stuff, and then there would be the down time.
There is a bright red Pentex camera, but oh my, wear would I take it. I want to blend in.
So your thoughts are most welcome.
PS: You know Canon has not done anything for me of late. So why do I have there name, and the name of the camera all over my camera?

You can paint your washer and fridge, so there is paint out there that will work but would I risk having paint run into the insides of my camera?
I still have my Canon Rebel XTi and it's silver. I also have a Canon 40D which is black. I see no reason to paint the XTi black.
I would recommend leaving your camera as manufactured. Resale value will be higher, I suspect unless you can strip the camera, prime it and get several good coats of black on it. Since I don't believe your environment is set up as well as the factory, I'd recommend against painting.
I used to work with a gentleman that would cover the brand name on the tailgate of his truck and the company truck that he was in charge of. No free advertisement on the truck he paid for.
Paint away, it will not change the way the camera works. Nor will it change the way you see and shoot with it.
I once had a Miranda G black-chromed. Looked like black paint, but was more durable. That was back when the body coverings were metal and easily removed. Looked cool and was less noticeable. I say go for it if you're competent and don't expect to sell it.

He paid for the advertisment when he bought the truck.

If you are serious about painting, take it somewhere local where they do powder coating, that will be the only way the paint will be hard enough to withstand usage. My 2c

Can you powder-coat plastic or whatever the material is?
That would be good if you could.
All I worry about is my camera cranking out decent pics, not what color it is or what it looks like to other people. there are a lot of cameras that come in differnt colors, Pentax had one DSLR that was white, they called it the "storm tropper". Nikon's bridge cameras come in red or bronze, I have to admitt bronze is a nice color for a camera.

this takes me way back; I used to have 2 silver (?) Nikon F's that I used for the paper but always wanted a black cuz they were for 'pros.' Didn't get a black Nikon until my F3HP.
Not sure if I would paint any camera now...good luck
Unless done professionally ($$$), this would be a possible catastrophe for the workings of the camera. I remember street shooters in the 1950's and 60's who would try to camouflage (to become more inconspicuous) their silver Leicas with cut strips of black gaffer's tape used widely in professional photography. Unlike black electrical tape or black duct tape, the gaffer tape could eventually be removed without leaving the gummy residue of the other types.

It was just a thought, just a passing thought.
I'm back to normal now.
why don't you go to a camera shop or ask if anybody here wants a silver camera for a black one....
