I have used PSE for over 5 years and feel like it does most everything I need. Because of a post on our site I bought LR3 for $70 without really knowing what it does. Is it the same type program as PSE or something different? If it is an editing program is it better than PSE? Thanks a lot.

Its primarily a cataloguing program that does some good basic editing, but you will still want PSE for the detailed work.

I have Elements 9 and LR3 and use both, but LR3 most of the time. I edit from raw in LR3 and it's great for reducing noise, converting to Portrait mode for any images with faces in them. I love LR3 but prefer PSE for cloning and cropping. Also use PSE for creating a canvas, doing collages, etc. IMHO you need both. Congrats on getting LR3 for $70. That's a deal!

Oh yea, LR3 is EXCELLENT for organizing your images. It's an impossible task with Elements.

Thanks for the reply. Someone posted it here, it was a one day deal I think at B and H. This week someone gave a code for PSE 10 and I got it for $50. Good week!

Good, there were some things I did not like about Organizer and quit using it last year. I have been using NX2 and making folders instead.

No it isn't primarily a cataloguing program.

It's a "digital darkroom" according to Adobe (I happen to agree.)

It does what a person would do in a "darkroom" and stops short of the massive overhaul of pictures like photoshop or PSE.

PSE9 has Organizer which is a pretty good cataloging program but when my catalog grew to over 24,000 pictures, it slowed down to a crawl. I switched to LR3 which seems to handle the larger catalogs. It also converts your Organizer catalog so that if you already have a large catalog you won't have to do it over. They both have some quirks though. Usually quitting the program and then restarting will solve the problems I've encountered.

I agree with others that say both LR3 and PSE or CS5 are great to have. They complement each other.
