A pretty good deal on brand new Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lenses (the "old" one) popped up on facebook this past Monday. I jumped on it, and my brand new lens arrived today. I saved almost $200 on the list price, and I'm sending off for the $200 rebate card. Not a bad Christmas present at all!

I took some un-boxing photos with my cell phone. Forgive the rough photo, I was kind of excited (like a kid at Christmas ;) ).

It's a fairly large lens, weighing in at 3 lbs, 8.2 ounces. Mounted to my EOS 6D with battery grip, the whole kit weighs 6 lbs, 2.1 ounces.

Hi Howard, you will love this lens. It's without a doubt the lens that I use the most on both my 5DIII and 7D's. Congrats!

Chris

Congrats Howard, I met a fellow that was using that lens in Florida and some of his shots looked great even on the lcd on the back of the camera especially the one of the huge snake that was on the boardwalk.

I am sure you will enjoy it, I have the sig 150-500 with my 6d and have had a lot of fun with it over the past year.

Perfect lens! I've had mine for many years and most recently shot the Blue Angels in October here in SF. Last year I shot the America's Cup races here as well. It's great for sports and Humpback Whale photography too!

Thanks Happy! I've been Jonesing after this lens for a while now, and just couldn't pass up the chance to get one. I took a couple of shots around the neighborhood, just to test it out. It's going to take a bit of getting used to, but I plan on working at it.

I recently picked up a used copy (mint condition with caps, hood & case)of the Nikkor 80-400 VR F4.5/5.6 for a little over $600. Like you, I was excited as well.... I couldn't afford the newer one.... Have fun !!

Thanks Scott. Well, after buying the EOS 6D with EF 24-105mm f/4L lens, the EF 70-200mm f/4L lens, and now this EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L lens, all in 2014, my wife has finally put her foot down. Looks like 2015 will be pretty dry for G.A.S. ;)

My wife put her foot down a long time ago.... Good thing she can't tell the difference between lenses or cameras though. Otherwise I'd be in deep Do-Do...

I love new toys. Just got a used Sigma 150-500 myself yesterday. Maybe we could weightlift together to get into the shape we'll need to be in for this heavy artillery.

Howard,
If you had looked in the "For Sale" section of UHH, you would have seen I have a pristine Canon 100-400 for a bit less than what you paid.

Maybe someone else will be a winner!

Would it have come with the warranty?
