I have never bought a DSLR in the US. Had, still have, a Canon A-1 and still think of it as a great camera.

Much later, overseas I bought a 60D and now I feel that am well informed about Canon products, except "Rebel"

I see Rebel this or that so often but have no idea where the fit into the Canon line like 1D, 5D, 6D, 7D, 50D, 60D, 70D, SX etc.

Is there a listing to compare the "Rebels" with the XD line?

Thanks for your kind replies.

Howdy:

I'm a prenovice but have been researching a lot. Micro Center is the best store around here. They have a nice comparison feature on their website.

Rebels are the entry level dslr line, designated XXD in other places. The Rebel T5i is a 700D in some regions and Kiss X7i in Japan.

That help?

With Canon, the more digits, the "lower" on their food chain.

The "Rebel" line is numbered with three digits outside of North America,

The 60D & 70D sit above the Rebels in features and capabilities

The 7D is at the top of the crop sensor food chain.

Then you get into their full frames:

6D is their "entry level" full frame camera - great low light performance and colour quality but fairly basic focusing system

5D Mk III - Professional camera

1D - Top of the Canon DSLR heirarrchy

Hope that helps

Yes it helps, thanks.

Another question though. Are 1D, 5D, 6D, 7D, 50D, 60D, 70D, SX etc. available in the USA or only Rebels?

When I come home, to the Mid West, I hope I am not the only one with a 60D.

Yes, seems odd but it helps. Thanks.

Just google any of those and you will find hundreds of US suppliers. Retail prices are fixed by Canon, so if you see something much less than the others, beware of deceptive practices.

The full line of Canon cameras are all available throughout North America.
Not to mention they are all available through Canon's own e-store on-line.

Just a comment, I've had Rebel cameras for some years and I do lots of video with my current model the t3i. I've found them all to be excellent. So, depending on your budget and what you're shooting if you're considering a Rebel you won't be disappointed... at least I'm certainly not.

Good luck

Here is where you may compare. When I first began to look at Rebel cameras, I was hesitant. Now I love the models. I have the T3i and a 7D. I teach photography and encourage my students to consider them. http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/cameras?utm_campaign=internal-link&utm_source=mainmenu&utm_medium=text&ref=mainmenu

Those are all USA (North American) model numbers. The three digit numbers are outside the US (UK and Europe) and Japan has yet a third set of model numbers

This wiki page gives both a table of technical specs and a graphic of the entire digital EOS line. The model numbers and the US Rebel names are provided: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Canon_EOS_digital_cameras
