Don't "resize canvas", do a custom crop.
PM me and I'll give you my e-mail so you can send me an uncropped photo if you want

Since these are not fine art prints why not get it close, and resize to fit canvas?

If I try to get too close to the house and fill the frame, then I don't have enough space left for cropping when I do the 9x12 cropping. It chops off top, bottom and sides. I think I need to rethink about taking whole house pictures and concentrate on some feature of the house, like an unusual porch or front doors. That way I can zoom in close and not worry about the cropping so much.

Good idea! Maybe use an overall house shot as your background and a few detail insets? Sometimes it's the deatils that set them apart from the rest.

You don't have to resize the image. Click on the crop tool and then on the pull down menu just above the pic set the picture dimensions to 9x12 (or 3x4 as others noted) and then just pull the crop handles to what you want and clidk on the green arrow.

You usually don't have to worry about what the actual "image size" is. If you print to the right size and have the right aspect ratio it will be fine.

Using PSE10, Image/Resize/Canvas 9x12, is how I found that I was not leaving enough space around all four sides.
After taking the photos again, leaving enough space, I was able to get a 9x12 without any parts of the house missing, but due to the distance from the house, the image isn't all that great.

I use CS5 but I have PSE 10.
Use the crop tool and set it to 9 x 12 @ 300 ppi ( or whatever the printer requested)

Yes, I knew that is what you meant but felt a bit more detail in the explanation might help. Looking at all the tools in Elements confused me for a long time. I still don't get what it means when they speak to "canvas size", but so far it doesn't bother my output so I ignore it.

BTW it is a green check mark to click to execute the crop, not an arrow as a miswrote.

Yes, the handles are a key thing to mention. Good point.
My Elements 10 isn't working, just have CS 5 and there are differences.
I never resize the canvas. Am I missing anything?
