I have a D5200 and have not noticed this problem. Could you be a bit more specific regarding the prolonged shutter noise you describe? - Duration? Characteristics (whirring, clicking, snapping, etc.)?

Same for me. I haven't noticed any anomalies with shutter duration on the D5200. Any details?

I assume you are not talking about a long exposure.

When I first go that camera I found that my best friend was the return to default setting for a few weeks. There were a number of times I set one or several things as an experiment then either forgot where all I had been in the menu or determined it was just easier to go back to the beginning.

Very true. The D5200 has fairly sensible defaults and the complexity and permutations of custom settings can put you in an odd state until you get used to it all.

Agreed. While I have made a few custom settings, for the most part it is still very close to the default setup.
