Hi, Jack,
Your technically excellent, well composed celebration of soft curves and finely textured adobe surfaces as a backdrop for the small, severe sharp-edged rectangles of the dark wood-barred window and its adobe-embedded lintel is great use of both tonal and textural contrast.

It is a strong and sensitive culturally iconic image.

Thank you Dave. Santa Fe and Taos are fantastic areas to photograph.

If I could put it as well as Dave has done I would but without his exquisite fluency with the English language I will just totally concur with what he has said.
You have a great eye to spot this. 99.9% would walk on by.

I have to add that I've been to Santa Fe and Taos many times and been to the Santuario...and likely walked by that spot on more than one occasion, but never "saw" it there as you did. More's the pity, and the greater my admiration for your image!

Interesting shot. I really like the contrast of the curves with the square window and straight bars.. The composition is excellent. The rule of thirds works will here.

Jack, great shot! The composition is flawless. I would increase contrast a tad so that the whites are pure white and blacks are deep black. Adding some slight burning around the edges would not hurt. But this all comes under the heading of "Gilding the Lily"!

Thanks for your kind comments Billyspad. I feel very lucky to have stumbled onto this image, I knew when the shutter was pushed it would be pretty good if I didn't screw it up.

And I agree that Dave does put a lot of thought and effort into his critiques, which I think we all appreciate.

Thanks C Mama. I didn't give the rule of thirds any thought on this, but you're correct that it does fit.

I don't think most of us think about it but because it "looks" better that way that is how it turns out. :-D

Yep ... great composition. I like the reflections in the window as well. I suppose if a photographer stood there all day the reflections would change ... wonder what other things would show up in that window? It would be interesting. I would like a little more contrast. I especially would like to see the water stains brought out more.

I grew-up in NM and this captures the simple, peaceful, quiet of the SW. Great composition and technical capture. Thank you for posting.

Jack, this is a wonderful image. You captured the texture of the building, as well as that of the light falling on it. The gentle curves contrasted by the sharp angles of the window, which is place very nicely placed within the image itself.

This is truly inspirational, as I'd like to travel there myself someday and photograph in that area.
