My wife has an orchid plant that sits on the breakfast table and has blossomed for the third time. Tried to capture uniqueness of the throat of the flower along with the overall beauty of each flower. Your suggestions, c and c would be appreciated as I still have much to learn.
They are very pretty. I especially like the angle of number 3.

Well Floyd, from the posted images it dosen't appear like you have very much to learn. Beautiful pleasing images to the eye. Thanks for sharing. 8-)

Thank you for your gracious comments. Now if I can learn to do as well with birds, nature, etc.
all are very nice but #3 does it for me.
They are not sharp...but soft.
It also seems that the depth of field is not working in your favor...it seems extremely shallow.
What lens, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO did you use to get these?

Sony 17-50mm @5.6, ISO 100, camera on a tripod with a release cable.
Last one taken hand held with camera on automatic (forgot to look at setting).

When shooting orchids I like to isolate the flower from the background or clip the stems together for a group photo. My photos can be seen here

I like the color. The depth of field is a bit shallow. If it were me I would shoot this color a +1 ev or more to bring out the light and then adjust the exposure post production. When shooting orchids I like to isolate the flower from the background or clip the stems together for a group photo. I have been playing with HDR and my orchids. My photos can be seen here

Thanks for your help. I'll move them outside and try out my brand new wireless remote, along with the previous suggestions.

using similar space in a composition. [photho 2 ]
