Doing a "Search"?

People often recommend doing a search, rather than asking a question. Have you ever tried doing a search? I just tried with a few terms, and I got nowhere. The problem, if you can call it a problem, is that the program does find the words you entered, regardless of how they are used.

One example I tried is Cowboy NPT-04 (the wireless flash trigger). Maybe the search found that, but I wasn't about to look through every entry that turned up.

I'm not complaining about the Search feature, I'm just saying that it is not the magic bullet to find all your answers.

I agree there has to be a better way. I have found stuff I am looking for on here by doing a google search.

the thing with the search feature on UHH is you have to be general as the original poster asking the question most likely was very vague.

I only put in keywords like: ISO, Metering Mode, Background, Lighting, etc. Putting in a brand name isn't going to bring up to many results.

I wanted to get opinions on the Cowboy NPT-04, and I got every reference to cowboys on the site. NPT-04 gave me any mention of those letters or numbers in a thread. That's why I ask questions.

chances are members are not going to be posting questions on exact model number of any product (only exception will be camera bodies and lenses). So doing a search for Cowboy NPT-04 is going to get you very limited results. Now searching for "wireless triggers" brings up a full page of results for you to look thru.

Yeah, I think good ole MWAC got it. It appears that the search first tries to find an exact match. If it does not find an exact match, it apparently returns a hit for individual elements of your search.

As MWAC pointed out, the OP's are usually not very explicit so you have to go along with them and open up your search to more general terms.

Happy hunting.

Country's Mama got it right. It's more effective to do a Google search.

And if you only want to see the results from the Ugly Hedgehog forum, rather than the entire internet, you can do a "Google advanced search" and fill in the box labeled "Search within a site or domain" with: uglyhedgehog.com

The results of the search
