I have wanted to try step focus and last week end I took my Canon 5Ti to the garage and did two tries and was really surprised at the results. I used my new Tamron 180mm macro lens and off camera flash. One of the pictures was 10 steps the other 24.
Nice shots I like the water drops on the flower petals

Success, I would not have know that you used that technique; but the result is really good dof. Nice work
I hate to sound ignorant, but I haven't heard of step focus before. From the name, it sounds like you are taking a series of shots while focusing on different areas of the subject, but I am just guessing.
Having recently joined the forum, I have found it to be very enlightening. The Orton Effect, which was the subject a couple of weeks ago, was also new to me. But seeing some of the great shots, I look forward to trying it myself.

Looks like you "nailed it".
Thanks for looking and your comments
You are correct Chem Doc. You take multiple shots each with a different focus and then combine them using software to mask the out of focus parts and leave the in focus parts. The software I used was Helicon focus.

You beat me to it Nikonian72. :)

Sorry I beat you to it Haveago, but I love the focus stacking I have seen and couldn't wait to try it. It has a total different look from just shooting a single picture with a good depth of field for some reason.
