I saw this Goose in the same cornfield that I saw and photographed a Leucistic Canada Goose last winter.

Thinking that it was the same goose as I drove by it I soon realized that it was a different goose and not the Leucistic Canada Goose that had passed through this area last year. The cornfield is about 40 miles due West of Milwaukee, WI.

I'm thinking that this goose is a cross between a domestic goose and a White Phase Snow Goose.

Any other guesses out there?

I'm with you Erv, NO CLUE!

The grey feathers on the side of it's head is an interesting marking that I cannot see on any other goose species in my books.

Thanks Erv,

Tom

Why that's the "woodland camouflage" goose. <wink wink nudge nudge> Seriously I have a friend who is a serious birder, would you mind if I shared the photo with him to see if he can identify it?

I'll see what he says tomorrow. Yeah, I'm not betting on anything. Sucks losing JT. May the best team win.

Tom, what you have here is a Snow Goose. Some acquire strange plumage and you were luck enough to find one. Congrats!

I heard from my birder friend this morning and here is what he had to say:
"It looks to me like it is a hybrid between a Canada and another goose species. My guess is that the other species was probably a domesticated goose, but it is possible it was a Snow Goose. Either way, I haven't seen one that looks like this before."

Hope that helps.

Thank you doc, I believed that it was part or all Snow Goose based on the shape and beak as well as the color of it's legs and beak.

Are you a Veterinarian?

Tom

I'm believing it's got Snow Goose in it's blood but the Canadian blood is hard for me to see.

Tom

I think you are really close after looking up pictures of the Norwegian Smålens Goose however, I don't think it's a pure bred version it really seems to have a Snow Goose blood line.

Thank you,

Tom
