I am a hobbyist with some nice gear. I presently own a D700 and a D800e, but now I have been starting to think if I want to upgrade again to either the D4s (of course my husband may kill me) or the D810. I love both of the cameras I own now but have been reading about the low light capability with the big guns. Want to know if anyone out there can share some thoughts? Thx

If he kills you, can I have yourD800e. If he doesn't, get the D4

All of this is "Mind Boggling" to me! Reviews have their purpose in life, but experience dictates! Interesting to know that I'm using the "third place" camera. Works for me and rather nicely at that! YMMV.

I agree, "third place"- whichever that is- is a great camera. Like choosing between a Ferrari and a Maserati.

Well you just can't have them all so I guess I will really need to narrow down what is most important to me. I live less than 1 mile from the St. Augustine Alligator Farm that attracts breeding Florida big birds from January through May each year and love to shoot the birds in flight. But how many birds do I need vs. I also love night photography that may win out in my passion so low light may be more important!
I think you are expecting too much from one camera. The fact is that there is no one camera that does everything very well, usually a camera will excel in one area but fall down somewhere else which is why Photographers often own a couple of bodies each suited to a different purpose and not necessarily of the same Brand.

What do you photograph the most? If it is sports and action requiring bursts of 10 or more frames, but you'll never print larger than 20x24 go for the D4s. If you do meticulous landscapes or architecture, or even portraiture and want optimum detail go for the D810 if the D800e doesn't meet your needs. Rent each for a week and see which you want to carry around. Who knows, you might decide you want a D750?
