I see B&H has elements 13 on sale I know very little about any of these programs or how to use them. My question is do you need to be a computer guru to make any use of this program? At $39.00 dollars it has to be a pretty good deal unless it is sorely antiquated.

It is a good deal! However, since I use LR 5.7 about 98% of the time, I don't feel I need to upgrade from PSE 10.
It has a steeper learning curve than Lightroom, but it's good to have when you need to work an image more intensely.
Most of us Hogs use either or both.

Maybe you should rethink your opinion on PSE. I have El12, after trying El10, and the learning curve has really flattened out. I think $39 for Elements 13 is a hell of a deal.

What are your goals in buying image processing software?

There is a lot of Adobe support available and with time and study one could become proficient.

You may want to check which version of Elements they are selling vs the current version.

Maybe I will. However, Christmas is almost here and I have a lot of presents yet to buy.
I do know how to use 'most' of PSE, but Lightroom is much faster and easier.
I'll give it a good think. Maybe put it on my AMAZON Wish List.

It has a very good guided mode.

Version 13 is far from antiquated. Many, including me, will say it continues to lead what is available in the market.

But, to your question about being a computer guru, there is no answer other than to say it requires an ability to be comfortable with computer use.

So sorry for you, Mogul, for missing it.
However, there were at least two earlier posts announcing the same deal, so mustn't have had your computer on...

Before you throw away your lottery tickets, check the fine print to see when the draw is. You should have a year after the draw to claim your prize. But don't spend the prize till after you've cashed the cheque...

You don't need to be a computer guru, but, to use the program effectively, you need more than a basic machine. Ideally, your machine should have a multi-threading processor, 16 GB of system RAM, at least one large hard drive, and its own video card, preferably with at least 1.5 GB of its own video RAM.

I just purchased Elements 13 through B&H. I've had 9,10,11 and 12. Elements is fairly easy to learn. Just use the guided mode at first. Lightroom will do most of what photographers need to do except layering. Elements will take care of that. For professionals, those who want to get very creative, have lots of time to learn and who like a challenge, Photoshop is unbeatable.
