Oops! I let it out of the bag. LOL.
Why is it that when someone wants to sell a digital camera, they always add to their sales pitch the number of times the camera has actually been shot? It leaves me to believe that the camera has just so many shots of life in it. I'm really confused as to why put that number in there. A salesman at a local camera store wanted to sell his and told me it only had 5000 actuations. Any help understanding this would be greatly appreciated.
The shutter count tells you how many times the mechanical parts of the camera, the shutter and mirror, have been used and yes, there is a limited life expectancy. In this case the D800 has been tested (by Nikon) for a shutter life expectancy of 150,000 actuations. 7800 clicks is a far sight better than 100,000 and has plenty of life left.
Hello, it is not a sales pitch. Most people like to know how many times the camera was actually shot before purchasing it. A camera with 129,999 actuations has been heavily used.
Thanks guys! I'm really new to "digital" cameras and that has come up several times but no one has ever explained it to me. I'd love to buy the camera Kalina54, but my wife would have a cow if I spent MORE money on camera equipment. And I'm talking a Texas Longhorn!

The shutters are designed with a life of 150,000 or some other designated # of actuations as tested "life". This gives you an idea of how much is used. Many exceed the tested life, some don't. It is just like knowing the mileage on a used car.
I have it listed here for less money because I would rather sell it to someone on this forum.
