Help. We will be in New Zealand for 3 weeks. What is the best way to handle all my photo's Keep them on the disc, or download them to my I-Pad. I"m sure there will be a couple of thousand photo's. What is the best size disc card to buy?

Don't rely on a couple huge cards, if one fails (and they often do) you will lose a LOT of data. I use a card wallet and have 12-8GB SD cards (Class 6 and Class 10) as well as 2-16GB SD cards (Class 10). I always swap them out before they get full, and if one fails you won't lose as many pics that way.

I dump my stuff to my lap top and then bun a CD as a back
Up. But lots of cards are the best way to go.
Have a good time, see you when you get back

I carry portable hard drives, they are small but can hold thousands of photos. Always have the images in two or three places at all times. If the laptop is in one carry-on bag the hard drive is in another, or in my pocket.

New Zealand sounds like a paradise, especially for those intersted in scenic landscape photography.

But 2000 pictures in two weeks? I wounder if you are working for National Geographic. Sounds pretty excessive to me.

I ponder what one of their photographers would end up seeing in print. Maybe ten. Maybe more worth keeping, but certainly not the whole 2000. Not even 200. I don't ever expect to have over 200 photographs that are superb, unique, and worth keeping, and I have been told I'm very good.

That being said, take lots of cards as suggested, and cull as you work through your "assignment."

I am going to New Zealand for 3 weeks as well. We are arriving on March 14 in Christchurch. Maybe we'll be in the same place at the same time. Have a great trip and safe travel.

I can average 1000 per day on safari, probably not so many on landscape but if animals are involved & shooting "continuous" you get a lot of frames but one is likely to be far better than the others. You can delete the others later, storage is cheap.

I was in Yellowstone park yesterday for 3 1/2 hours before the snowfall drove me out, shot over 400 images on 3 bodies in that time. If you don't shoot it you will never know what you have! Remember, megapixels are free!!!!

I agree with MT Shooter. I was in Alaska last summer and had almost 2000 pictures. It was easy to do in such a gorgeous place! I had several 8 GB cards and they served the purpose very well.
Have a great trip!

Just a note. I spent some time in Christ Church New Zealand back in the 70's while in the Navy. During the world wars, 85% of their import came from the US. It is a collectors paradise or at least it was. Maybe you could find a great old camera. But buyer beware of fraud. I love the museum with the history of the Maori Indians. It was like visiting an old english village where I stayed in a small cottage. Have fun & send us photos.
