Zoom lens prices.....

I have been researching a zoom lens for a gift. In doing so, I came across an oddity.......what seems to be the exact same lens being significantly less expensive for overseas sources (Aussie, Euro).
An example: the best U.S. Price on the Sony 55-210mm F/4.5-6.3 OSS Lens - E Mount is $348, but I have found several overseas sources for $197 (Aussie) to $249 (England). The descriptions appear to be the exact same, yet lower priced, despite the logistical differences.
Has anyone else come across this? It sounds too good to be true, so what will I miss out on by going foreign? Thanks.

I have purchase a few lens from overseas here in Oz with no Australian warranty , so they have all been the cheaper ones that are not so important , all my more expensive lens have been local with Australian warrenty, but they have been the real thing not copies , here we do not pay import duty or taxes until the item reaches $1000 dollars Aust
we only get 1 or 2 years warranty at best I believe in the USA you get a lot more if you buy local

Thanks to all for the good advice......I think I will buy domestic! the extra $100 could be worth the PIA if something goes wrong and I find out there is no warranty.
