About 4 months ago i had my Nikon 80-400mm fall on a throw rug over a tile floor. $625.00 later Nikon service had it repaired. After that i took a rider insurance policy on all my good cameras & lenses. Nuff said. Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

I dropped that same lens (Nikon) on a tile floor a few weeks ago. I shipped it back to the manufacturer and they repaired it as good as new. $189 ouch, but still cheaper than buying another lens.
True. That would be far worse. On the brighter side, maybe a 58mm 1.4 would be a suitable replacement.
Great positive attitude to look at it as an opportunity to buy another lens. Dropped my 70-200 2.8 and picked up a little 200 2.0 as a result! Also got the 70-200 fixed as the accident turned out not to be fatal.
