You should consider the Canon EF-S 10-18mm it reviews wonderfully.

You are going have a tough job, but not impossible one. You will not be buying from the retailers with used departments. You should look at classified adds in your local area, CL any other sources. That is one of the fines lenses that I have ever used. There are also third party lenses available. I have not used the EFs- 10-18 but it looks good and when they hit the used market all my drop in price. J. R.

I would be very surprised if you found a lens the quality you are looking for at $300. You might consider the Tokina 11-16. Check the reviews and may be the search here on the Hog. I used the Tokina for most of my landscape shots that I posted on Flicker.

As stated above, the Canon 10-18 has been getting great reviews and is for sale at B&H for 299.00. I am renting the 10-22 from Calumet in Oak Brook for a trip to Nashville this weekend. Picking up Thurs nite, dropping off Mon by 2:00. Cost.....$25.00. Hope this helps.
Enjoy,
Mike

I just ordered a 6D so will be selling my 10-22 but would need $500 for it, it's like new and I paid over $800 for it because I purchased a hood with it.

Get the 10-18 with image stabilization. It is not as durable build but it will do the job! I have the 10-22 I paid 425.00 used for. Have tempted to sell it and get the 10-18 I do not use the wide angle as much as I thought! They have very little detail in the photograph. At least that is my experience with the one I have! Great water fall camera but it does not stay on my camera.

Although I agree with you that the 10-18 is a great deal, I have to wonder about the detail in the photograph. My 10-22 is sharper than my 15-85 and sharper than my 50mm f/1.4. In fact it is one of the sharpest lenses that I own.

It is my experience that my 18 -135 is very sharp. I wanted wider so found the 10 - 22 Canon. I would have bought any stripe, thought that I would find a Sig. I next bought the 15-85 and agree mostly with Geoff that 10-22 may be sharper. If I had first bought the 15-85 I would not have bought the 10-22. But I have noticed that many of my shots are in the 10-15 range. You might want to look at your shooting habits? J. R.

I have the 10-22mm and would not even think of parting with it for less then 450$. This is a very sharp lens.
