Sorry if this goes against the rules but I got this in my email today regarding the Canon SX-50.

http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/cameras/refurbished-powershot-digital-cameras/powershot-sx50-hs-refurbished?cm_mmc=EM-_-ES-_-141111-_-PSsx50&WT.mc_id=EM1411ES11065&RID=1-JVT3MX&CON=1-3J6E-2314&PRO=&CID=1-JTK78Y

It's a refurb but a pretty good deal at $199.00. I'm sure this offer is Black Friday related so it probably won't last too long.

I purchased one of these last year and it does do some amazing things. I confess that I probably have less than 100 shots on mine. I've been too busy with the t3i and my s100

I saw this too, and it sounds like a good deal I looked at the SX60 at Best Buy and although it looks nice, i really had a difficult time with stability even at no more than 65 zoom.

Now, i must say that I'm 66 years old and not as steady as i was 30 years ago, so I'm sure that plays a part. Is there something I'm doing or not doing that i should be? I'm not sure if the IS was engaged, the clerk didn't really know a lot about it, and i knew even less.

tdklex, you and I are almost the age, but I skip ahead of you next Sunday. When I shoot with my Canon SX60 (it would be the same for the SX50), I shoot in Shutter Prioty Mode (Tv), with a setting of 1/320 .sec. That does away with most camera blur unless I'm at the real long end on telephoto ..... and then I use a tripod with remote cable release.

Image stabilization options are in the main menu. The one time I turned it off (SX50), it was very obvious :)

Got an SX-510 on closeout a few months ago for $199 new. Now I wish I had waited, the viewfinder, longer zoom and RAW make this a real deal. What's the warranty?

Thanks Bob, i knew i could count on you for the answer. I'll go back and try it again in TV. I knew i must be doing something wrong, just didn't know what.

Thanks Linda, I'm going again to try it, just this time not at Best Buy. There's a really good store here that specializes in Canon cameras as well as other major brands.

I believe the warranty is 2 weeks on the refurb. You can get a square trade warranty for pretty cheap and well worth it imho!

Good luck. Be sure and read the manual. I love this camera.

You can get help here of course.

I'm pretty sure that all Canon Refurb products carry a one year warranty. Great buy on that SX50.

Most refurbs that I've checked out have a one year warranty just like new cameras. I love my SX50. It goes everywhere with me for that unexpected photo op. SX60 is coming up shortly.

I use a very light weight $19 monopod from Wal Mart and a remote trigger that stays mounted at most times and I just steady the monopod and don't touch the camera, using the lcd for focus/framing. Works pretty good. Here's a very recent shot of a duck at sunset time. I'm 78 and shake like Tina Turner. Well, maybe not that bad.

Cropped by half, very little processing

Thanks, that's a great shot. I just love your sense of humor.

I got the SX60 a month or so ago and also find it very hard to hold steady at the long end and have now started using a tripod but next time will be a remote trigger . I shot a few of the crescent moon the other night handheld and was lucky to get a few keepers so also will try it tripod mounted next clear night
