Help in Photo Printer decision

I am a newbie to this forum and I have an opportunity to get a Canon Pixma 100 for a net cost of $177 or a Canon Pixma 10 for $299. Is the Pixma 10 worth approx. $100 more than the Pixma 100. Both printersas are new USA under warranty. I am new to digital and am used to Dektol & fixer from 27 years ago. I also keep trying to adjust the aperture on the lens ring instead of the control knob.

I have a Nikon D7100 and want a photo exclusive printer. For text etc. I have an HP C6280 that is just waiting to act up again for me to take a hammer to it. I will replace it with another multipurpose printer.

I am not too bothered about the longevity issue of dye vs pigment. (I still love black and white a little more than color and realize that black and white will also fade.)

I want a 13 X 19 printer. In starting out I am thinking the Epson 3000 is considered as not a good value as the Canons because of its considerably higher price..

What would you recommend?

I have been using the Canon PRO 100 for a while and really love it. For me it is a great improvement for B&W - 3 cartridges, black, dark grey and light grey. Also an appreciable improvement in color - previously I had the 9000 series. I only use it for photo printing leaving text and internet downloads to a very inexpensive Canon. I purchased the 100 new on CraigsList for $90 last spring.

It is big and heavy and ink isn't cheap but it prints great photos.

The Pro-100 will top-feed photo paper, and you can drop-down the backside feed tray for straight-through metal sheet & foam-board printing. The newer Pro-10 does NOT allow straight-through printing. This is one of the reasons I choose a Pro-100 printer.

If you like B&W get the printer with the most grey and black cartridges.

Printers by and large are relatively inexpensive ...it is the ink they get you on ! I have a Canon 9000 Mark II and am happy with the results . Epson printers have a good rep as well as I am sure many others out there . Speak with a reputable sales person and discuss your needs , I am sure you will arrive at a purchase that you will find that satisfies your needs . Good luck !

You can't go wrong with an Epson. I have an Epson 1280 that prints beautiful 13x19 photos I've won competitions with. I no longer compete and don't use it anymore. I'd like to sell it to help purchase a lens I want. I paid $400.00 for it a few years ago. I'll take $100.00 for it, buyer pays shipping. PM me if interested.

I have the Canon pro 100 and it works very well. It has black, light grey and dark grey ink tanks as well as several colors. For serious B+ W prints the Canon pro 1 has matte black, photo black, and 3 different grey inks, but it is considerably more $$$$$. It also has a clear coat. If I had the cash, that is what I would buy. meantime I am very happy with the pro 100 and my trusty old Canon 9000 MK II. Let us know what you buy.

I thought the Canon Pixma Pro-10 costs $699 retail (new). Is yours new?

The Canon Pixma Pro 10 is new and is from a three generation local respected dealer. It is being discounted and also has a rebate coupon worth $200.

As a newbie, I am wondering why I shouldn't take advantage of a net cost new of $177 for the Canon Pixma Pro 100.

Which one of these printers is the most recent? Also, since Canon is offering rebates on their printers, does this mean they are coming out with better ones in February?

I really respect the opinions in this forum, particularly when they provide details on diverse issues.

I have the R3000 Epson and would recommend it highly. It'll do 4 x 6's to 13 x 19's plus roll panorama's that are gorgeous."

REMEMBER>>>You GET what you Pay for! The Epson isn't more expensive just because Epson is trying to screw you out of extra money. It's more expensive for one reason. IT'S A BETTER PRINTER, and it's built to last. It's big, heavy, fast and "It Kicks Ass." It also has a lot of metal in it's construction. It isn't a plastic box. This baby is "built."

If you haven't purchased yet, scour craigslist. With the holidays, there are big rebates going on when the Canon Pro-100 is purchased with a camera, and people are dumping the printer brand new from $100-200, with a 50 pack of 13X19 glossy ($100 by itself).

I picked up mine a couple weeks ago for $80!
