If you know the individual's first or commonly used name AND location and associated people in a census year you may use some census records to locate. It is tedious but works.

How can I not know my mother's last name, the reason is when I was 3 years of age 1936 we were separated. Do not remember what she look like. As I said 1936 I was put in foster homes, and never heard of her since. I have a copy on her Divorce Record, she was divorce in 1936. She may have got married again. After 61 years searching there is no records on her. I do not know her last name when she died.AS THE OLD SAYING IS NO LAST NAME NO CAN FIND.
