Anyone get any Sigma (or other brand) lenses from ebay AC Electronic or HKBNS? They both are in Hong Kong and have good prices & very good ratings.
Thanks
Just wait until you get hit with import duty fees 6 weeks after getting the lens!
Even more important, you will have no direct warranty service in the US as the US distributor made no money from the sale. He allots a certain amount of the sale of US bound lenses towards occassional warranty events. Your Hong Kong lenses does not qualify. You will have to return it to Hong Kong for warranty service. The shipping will be more than whatever you saved in the purchase. Many of the Hong Kong eBay sellers are not camera stores, rather sell for other distributors. It's a mess for warranty recovery.

AMEN! Bottom line is, why bother? International warranty on a Sigma is only one year anyway, (and thats providing the lens is legitimate anyway), USA warranty is for 4 years.
I had not considered the import duty. If it was a Nikon I might go ahead since I have not had any issues with any Nikon gear yet (shouldn't have said that since Murphy is listening!) but Sigma lenses are an unknown to me as I only have the Sigma Ring Flash.
The difference is considerable but maybe not worth the risk...and if the import duty is imposed the difference will be less.
Thanks for the info
I've had good luck with Sigma but....STAY AWAY FROM JAPAN.....unless you just like shelling out bucks with the import duty and what happens if you get a lens with a defect? Hope you're not in any hurry to use it as you're camera might be resting in peace by the time you get it back. Japan lost the war but service delay is part of the payback for it I think.
And Hong Kong - is a nightmare in disquise.
Just buy your lens from B&H or other reputable US dealer and realize the "cheap price" from HK, Singapore, Japan, et al is for an unknown lens with likely poor service, warranty, etc. ...The old thing about "you get what you pay for" really applies to cameras and electronics. Forget the cheap seats!
