Funny how you can see something a million times and then "bam"...you've got to shoot it.

Spot on , the fire hydrants make some good pics and I have several close to my house that are in bad repair.
Love the peeling paint and the mini Cairn in the second pic. Thanks for sharing them

Uuuuummmmmm, You may have taken these shots because:

#1 is a colorful sight in a no color winter landscape.

#2 You shot this one because it's darn hard to find that many stones, that will stack up that well, and that high, without the stones falling over onto your foot! (I am speaking from past stone stacking experience. lol)

Lol. You are right. It is very brown around here. Ordinarily we don't see the fire hydrants because they are buried in snow!

Thanks Ian. After posting I decided I didn't like number 2... Oh well. Hope Tilde is feeling better. Last I remember she was under the weather.

Nice images. Like many spontaneous actions my feeling is the contrast in #1 caught your eye and the lighting in the cairn caught your attention. As photographers we we capture images not solely for the subject matter but how the light portrays it, quality, angle, intensity etc. This is what makes us take a second look at common everyday objects.

I love the rock pile because of the lighting. Inspired, she returns.

Thanks Nikron. I do believe you inspired me to just shoot yesterday. Thanks for that. I also took about 40 shots of some trash along the country road. Not very nice to look at, but made for an interesting sideshow.

Love the stack of stones. One year I did this in the middle of the creek and some folks floated by on their inner tubes and other inflatables. The children asked why they were there and what they were for. I made up an outrageous tale on the spot and told them the statues were made for the fairy folk so they could find me and bring me good luck. Now, during the summer I see stacks of rocks here and there and I know the children who heard my tale that day have been hard at work.

Cyn, it all about what you see. If you like what you see its your art. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

It is always great when one can take the mundane and create a photo with impact. The red fire hydrant does that.
