Little House in and old gold town.
The town of Rochford has, I would say more that its share of "OLD Houses" in it. Several of the older places have been taken care of over the years and though they are old they are by no means run down, then there are the one that like the one pictured here are not just run down but falling down on them selves. Now any of you who live here in the mid west know that a house or even a town that has been around for 130 years is an extremely old home, and not a lot of them have survived to rigors or the extreme weather and this is what we will see in these shots.
This home was a miners shack built some time around 1890.
These are log shacks and some of them have chinking inbetween the logs.
The window on the front covered with an old grain sack.
The inside which this is a picture of has several kind of wall coverings paper bags or a heavy craft paper, then if there happened to be a newpaper printed in their town which there was in Rochford and Lead and also in Deadwood so when every body got through reading them they made great insulation then they also used grain bags. This cabin has all three and with the paper if it is really still readable then we can glean what was happening during that period of time.
The box spring left by the last tenent of this cabin, the stuffing is now being used by the residents that live there now such as the squirels[ tree rats], mink, and other types of small vermin.
Need a heater this one is in pretty good shape with a little tweeking it will be as good as new.
This is one of the grain sacks that has a Sydney and I am sure it was Nebraska printon it .
Open air venting through a little hole in the roof. Not anything that a well placed board and a few (square) nails would not fix.
Front from the other side.
Side view .
Played with a little.
This is also a B&W little bit of easyshare.
Great Shots...nice bit of history!!!
Like old cabins. They do well in B/W.
Good as gold pictures and solid gold story....Thanks for the tour!
Aha, you added some more!!!!! great stories with your photos, thanks so much!!!

Very nice set of images! It takes a long time for those old log houses to fall down.

I grew up west of Hill City and still own the ranch there. Get out there pretty often. Been to Rochford lots and photographed the same building. Miss the old Standby Mill that was just down the road from Rochford. Have a burger at Moonshine Gulch for me. Good to see someone post that posts something familiar to me. Great Shots!
Little bit of History,Great Kodak moment!

Kodak moment you are right there but I think that they are putting their camera dept. to sleep. I know it is not a Nikon or a Cannon but it has had a lot of great shots in the last several years over 3000 clicks with out a hitch. All I have to say is it was fun while it lasted.
My house isn't quite that old.....built back in the early 1900's and has cardboard insulation in the attic. And since I reclaimed it from the abandoned stage, I had to evict all the vermin that wanted to call it home. I have to agree that with a little elbow grease, a few square nails (I gotta bucket full of those!!) and a little bit of love, it might just be a great place to spend a summer or two.
I think you were quite brave to go inside for a few shots as it looks like a good sneeze could bring the whole thing tumbling down!!
great shots, there is some thing about old places, wow
I really like the sepia color (last two).
That's really cool... What a tough life for those people
JMOTES: I was really amazed by your pictures that said .. this is one that will not be around in the next two years it is falling down a little more each day.

That's a pity. Wonder some preservation group won't try to keep it up
