Does it really matter?

Probably - in time - all cameras will have video because they can and it is a value added statement in advertisements.
I have an older P&S Pansonic and that has HD video.
Don't want it - just leave the switch in the camera mode and you will not get video. But you never know when it may be of use.

I notice that my Canon DSLR has a function to save frames from a video for that occasion when you want a picture of a fast moving object.

Do I need it? No. Is it useless? No.

Canon 450 or xsi which I have two as well as the 60D. I still use the xsi more than the 60D. I prefer the control layouts on the 450 and maybe because of being more familiar with 450 layout. I have had the 60D about nine months and have not use the video as of yet.

The Nikon Df has no video and no pop-up flash.

Nikon Df is only been out for a year and has no video. It is thiner and lighter than cameras with video.

A lot of cameras can have the record button changed to do other things (still picture) related. Just think of the record button as a customizable button.

Any older DSLR prior to the Nikon D90 which started the entire video in DSLR rush.
Currently the Nikon Df is about the only production DSLR without video features.

If I wanted video I'd get a CAMCORDER - I still don't knpw why video is stuck on a regular camera - just to make things much more complicated to understand. I don't need a swiss knife either - that's just my decision. Soon I suspect there will be a fan to cool you off during hot weather -

Personally, when I look for a camera, I am unlikely to look for one with a criteria of does not do video. I usually start with a list of things I want the camera to do.

I really don't want to include every camera designed by Ferrari in this list, but I must admit it would have made one striking DSLR! I'm still debating about picking up one they have at a local store - as soon as they cut the price in half.
