Hi everyone. I had a photo business back in the 1980s. Mostly Wedding, Kids, Family groups, mcl. I sold my Hassy and retired. Now traveling and finding it hard to hand hold my d7100. (age 82).

Welcome to the Force...You have entered an addictive land of truths, myths, fantasies, ghosts, goblins and good old fashioned advice (whether you want it or not)...
Seriously though - the folks here have lots of good advice and a couple of days of experience and are willing share what they can - don't hesitate to ask detailed questions, in fact, the more details, the more accurate the answer ;)
A couple of links to help you
navigate the forum and a couple of
resources to hopefully answer your questions or guide you in your quest...
Ask away and post away - looking forward to seeing some photos.
Thanks.....will need some answers'bout digital, etc....as we go along.
Welcome Lloyd...judging from your avatar, sure don't look 82.
Welcome to the family!
Have you looked into bridge cameras? Much lighter weight and most have many features. I have the Canon SX50, which you should be able to find for about $300 - $350 now that the 60 is out. It shoots in raw, has M, Av, Tv etc - and has a long zoom for distant birds and such.
Main drawback is the viewfinder isn't very clear, and this bridge camera, in particular, offers very little control over depth of field at wider angles (it's all in focus :) )
I have a ver big family that takes very good care of me. I am disabled to some degree but I would rather not think about it. My family seems to have a long life span. Perhaps that has something to do with my "young" looks. I was married for 56yrs and took care of my wife (disabled) for the last 25yrs. She passed last Feb. So now my time is consumed by the d7100. It seem that I am more satisfied if I am able to "learn" and at my age (I am finding out) it is becoming less easy. Sorry this turned out so long.

Hello Lloyd, welcome to UHH.
Hello, and Welcome. Have you tried using the D7100 with a battery grip, thinking that maybe it's good way to get a better grip on the camera? If it's the weight, I've been using a Canon G9 for years, light, compact, and 12MP, along with a zoom lens. The possibilities of finding the right camera for you are endless, just take a trip to a local camera store. Good luck.
Welcome to the UHH Lloyd.
sorry about your wife. your life has really changed, then. going from a caregiver for that many years, makes things seem strange now that she is gone. we just lost my mom in july. my youngest sister took care of her for 20 years. it is hard for her. you will enjoy the hog. many good people. learning is neverending. deb
