Which lens would you select if each can be had for about the same cost? Use would be primarily for shooting birds and wildlife with Nikon D800e. Thank you.

Sigma 150-600mm Sport. The 50% extra long range is the deciding factor, plus its $500 less money to buy new AND you have the ability to fine tune most of its functions to your personal shooting style and to your camera body right at home on your own computer using Sigma's USB Dock system and free tuning software.
Nikon has a 10% off on refurbished equipment that ends at 12pm 11/24 EST. The 80-400 AF-S ED VR can be had for about $2025. That puts it very close to the Sigma + dock. I am strongly leaning towards the Sigma. Thank you.

I sold my Nikon a month ago and got 6 of the Sigmas on pre-order, one for my personal use. Its an amazing lens for sure!

How does the Sigma 150-600 sport compare to the Tamron 150-600?

For one, you can actually GET the Sigma Sport without waiting for months on a pre-order list!
The Sigma is built to professional specs including full weather sealing. You can adjust almost any function of the lens and program its focus specifically to your camera right at home via Sigmas unique USB Dock system with free downloadable software, this is huge! And it comes with a very nice padded case to keep it safe in when not using it. One look at that 105mm front object lens will tell you that this is a SERIOUS piece of optical gear!
As to image quality I cannot compare them directly as I cancelled my pre-order on the Tamrons after waiting for 5 months to get them, I still have yet to even see one in person. I got my initial order of the Sigma 150-600mm Sports lenses in less than 3 weeks from announcement!
