I think this picture is really cool. Could anyone tell me how it was done? Is it a long exposure or photshop?

Cool ride, jet bumper plane
Somebody spent a LOT of time with their camera nearly on the ground in one place and then took a LOT of shots to merge. And it does look like many of the planes were added to the scene on photoshop as several of the perspectives are off.
It IS a pretty cool image. If it were a long exposure, you probably wouldn't see any planes at all. Anything that moves wouldn't be in the the same place for a long enough time to be recorded.

Just a normal day at Chicago's O'Hare airport.
That would take several days to take that many pictures of takeoffs at BHM. Attached is a panorama I took. It is about 40 images plus 11 of the SouthWest jet taking off.

Nice shot. The focus was spot on.
The name of the original picture is Flughafen which is German for Airport. It is credited to Ho-Yeol Ryu. If you look at a large version you can see it is Hanover Flughafen. It is entirely a Photoshop creation. One of the planes is a Southwest which only flies in the USA. Also, larger planes always take off further down the field. It is supposed to be a commentary on Global warming. I didn't know Photshop was a leading cause. ;-)

Here you go. This link will show you one way to get that effect.

Looks good anyway. Can you adjust opacity of the layers to eliminate the transparency?

That could be the problem, but this was just my second attempt. I'm still not an expert with Photoshop - maybe by tomorrow.
