I have a Black Rapid RS5 Cargo strap carrying system for my Canon 450D. (1) Does some one make a plate which would also allow me to use my Velbon tripod quick release plate? (2) There are also times when I would like to use a monpod. Your suggestions please.

That is why I went with a Op/tech sling. It hooks where you original strap does. Leaves the tripod hookup open. Might want to look at their site. They might have a way there to do it.

You are stuck with the BR system that way. Options are to spend more money and stack adaptors and mounts. That why I won't spend the money on a BR product.
I sure am glad I was trained as a news photographer and a combat photographer. I don't carry tripods, monopods, lots of lenses, etc. I basically take a camera with a 90mm lens and walk up to things. If I am too far away I shoot a low ISO, crop in pp and blow things up in pp....
Do others do the same?
Black Rapid is great for me. As was said you can get fastner screw for your mount. You also said you go back and forth to mono pod. I had the same issue with the Manfrotto mount. You can see in the pictures my fix, the strap can stay attached when mounted to tripod or monopod. The adapter plate is made from aircraft aluminum, you wil need to replace the bolt with a slightly longer one. You don't need a ring on the screw because your stap is mounted to the adapter plate. I have been using this setup for over a year now with no problems
Check out Bogen/Manfrotto for a rock solid well priced monopod.

Does your monopod use the same plate?
I have a Manfroto tripod and monopod, so when the plate is on the camera switching back and forth is easy.
