I took this photograph at Gatorland a couple of years ago and while I still liked the pose of the bird the photo itself was nothing to write home about. Still, I just could not dump this series of photos and they sat in limbo for awhile.
My mom came over and she wanted to go threw my photos to get some printed out for her home and she saw this series. She loved this one (and its mate-my avatar) and wanted to have me crop it down and turn it into a black and white. Since this photo was taken across the lagoon and at the full extent of my lens (400mm) I really didn't think that it would crop very well. But I tried it and spent a couple of hours on them to truly blacken the background out. I flipped this one for a set of "bookends"
I kind like the way it turned out. You can't blow them up very large but an 8x10 is perfectly acceptable.
The original
The PP - not cropped to 8x10
cropped for 8X10
Beautiful! A great choice for B&W.
