Having been a member for over 40 years & knowing quite a few other longer term member, I suspect some of the complaints may be "operator error" or misunderstandings. I've had more problems with civilian sector banks & insurance companies than USAA.
US Army, ASA, 1964-1968, Germany, Intelligence ...not Viet Nam though I did try to volunteer for Special Forces after Basic but the Army had "higher priority" uses for my talents.
Purchased my first real camera mail order shortly after arriving in Germany, a Mamiya C3 with multiple lenses, very heavy kit ...purchased a doctor's bag and created compartments for everything. Took that camera system all over Europe from Spain to the northern most reaches of Germany in my little MG Midget.
Shot B&W, did all my own developing and printing in Kassel where there was a photo lab on the base. The lab was run by a German photographer who was very helpful with all aspects of shooting, developing and printing. I learned a lot from him and his help has proved to be a solid foundation over the years ...he was a good teacher.
Somehow all the 2-1/4 x 2-1/4 negatives disappeared during my divorce. The avatar I use comes from a scanned print made in '66 or '67 of a foggy day in the forest to the west of Helmstedt made the same year. I used to walk to the work site through this forest occassionally.

Not in Vietnam but at Camp Casey Korea
Yea, bought my first DSL at the PX in Seoul, was in the 557TH Signal Battalion and later stationed at Camp Howze where my camera outfit was stolen out of my sleeping quarters by some slickie cleaning guy's. Was a great camera and I did my own developing on my signal site called Beason prior to getting assigned to Camp Howze. One of our shots went to Camp Casey. Loved taking photo's on my day's off. Didn't have a chance to do photography until I retired four years ago and I get the GAS symptoms every day. Looking at the 7DMarkII and the Sigma 150-600mm with a Wimberly gimbal mount and Gitzmo tripod, so I'm dreaming for the future. Just watching all the comments about the set up in views by the HOG members. Keep the comments coming. Like "MT Shooter's" perspective a lot and expertise. May be will be looking at the nest gimbal mount. "Happy Thanksgiving" to you all. This is a great forum to gain knowledge. Forgot to mention I was in the US Army 1966 to July 1969.
I started in my first yrs of high school but in Vietnam I learn the darkroom B & W prints were great yea got two new cameras in nam and came home in 71; and did my sister wedding and got a job working for the photograph shop doing weddings, cool so yea nam was the leaning post..lol

Every company has complaints. But only 359? That is next to nothing. Lets take the 500000 members (actually more) and divide it into 359 that's a rate of .0007. Which makes it more pure than Ivory Soap.

I finally joined USAA to get personal property insurance for my photo gear.
I mentioned a photo of me after going down in an OH-6A in Vietnam. I found the picture. It's old and the surface is scratched up. Don't recall who took the shot, but it is rather under exposed, unfortunately. Amazingly, I walked away from that one without a scratch after crashing into the jungle from 1400 feet in the air. And no, I really wasn't as happy as I appear to be, standing there next to the wreckage with a grin.
Got my first slr , canon pelix , in country tet 68 , Danang
Was going into photography as a career when I got out of school but got into sales before I could get into photography . Spent 40 years doing that am now semi retired and am getting back into photography. I now teach beginning photography in one day workshops in the Sacramento area of California

It took guts (insanity) to fly LOH in nam. Were you part of a "hunter killer" team.

Please note those are not "359 complaints" rather they are 359 reviews. Yes a number are complaints but there are also a number that are complimentary. Try looking at Progressive or any of the other insurance companies in the list.

Nope, but that was about the only thing I didn't do with the LOH. Our unit's mission was to support the 199th LIB or anyone else that needed some sort of air support. I also flew Huey's during the same tour. We did the same sort of stuff as with the LOH, but at a "heavier" level, including stepping in with the M60 machine guns and acting as a sort of ersatz gun ship when the regular gunnies weren't available.
I visited Pleiku one day in 1963. I met several Montagnards and had some of my favorite pictures taken with them. Funny thing, I can't remember what camera I had at the time, but I have upgraded several times since then. I still have the pictures, but not the camera.
