I think I found the problem. My computer has a virus that somehow sneaked in when my back was turned. Other programs are acting as though they have minds of their own as well. Let me see if I can take care of the bug and then attack the Lightroom situation. Thanks to all who contributed expertise and responses and sorry to have been such a pest with what was actually a non-photo software problem.

You must have a Mac because Windows has the free anti-virus software that automatically updates. Unless of course, you turned it off because you are smarter than Bill Gates.
