This is my first time posting, and would like to know if there would be a great advantage in moving from my D600 (which I really enjoy) to a D810. Photography is my hobby, and I want to continue learning all I can about it, so I'm really glad I found this forum. There are so many of you with so much knowledge and experience. Thanks for your thoughts!
Welcome to UHH and from I read the D810 is a great camera.

I'm a hobbyist and have a D600, too. Very nice body for what I need a camera for. I don't know how much I'd gain by going to the D800's. The D800 does do better in low light situations. I'd like that, but I'm not ready to pony-up the extra money for just that feature. I'm quite sure it does other things better than a D600, but for now I'm staying with what I have. When I'm ready to upgrade I'll look at the D800 or whatever has replaced it. For the time being I am spending my money on good glass. A good lens improves what comes out of my D600 and I can use it on a new body when I decide to upgrade. All that and I'm "cheap". Just sayin'

Exactly what is the D600 NOT doing for you?
The D810 is a fantastic camera, but your D600 is no slouch. Unless you are having issues with it, or have a deep, underlying reason to switch, I would not recommend it just for the sake of owning a D810.
What type of photography do you do? The biggest differences between the d600 and d810 are the greater dynamic range and the improved AF system on the d810.
I have a D600, rxRose. If you don't know why you need a D810, you don't need it.
I began getting awesome photos once I started investing in excellent prime lenses, studying my camera's capabilities, learning back-button focus techniques, and learning how to process Raw files.
I've learned how to look for angles, light, shadows, color, balance, and leading lines. I also shoot A LOT! I shoot events (often in low light, where the D600 shines), sailboat races, exclusive parties, family portraits and business head shots.
If I take a bad shot, I now know its not because of my camera's inadequacies--it's because I wasn't focused.
So, put on your thick skin and start posting photos. Ask for comments and criticism (C&C) and learn. I promise you'll get some advice here that will propel you forward.
Keep the camera. Get good lenses. Shoot Raw. Study post-production.
No, D810 will not give you any significant advantage, and will not make you a better photographer. Instead of a new camera, invest in photography books, photography courses or equipment like new lenses or a very good tripod. D600 will not be a constraint for your photography for a long time, believe me.
If you can afford it the D810 is a great camera. By far my favorite. I have a D7100 and a D800 and the D810 is tops. Good luck.

Thank you for the great advice. Is is best to post pictures in the photo gallery for critique?

It really depends on what you do with your photographs. If you are mainly viewing digitally, I doubt if you would know the difference. However, where the D810 would pull ahead is for very large prints or for deep cropping. There will be a price to pay, monetarily along with computer storage and needed computing power.

The D810 has better focusing, less shutter noise, Electronic front curtain shutter feature for sharper images, less image noise and 50% higher resolution.
Will you see a difference in your images?...maybe, depends on your shooting and processing preferences.
You'll get sharper images from the D800E and the same resolution but not all the features.
Not sure if I would upgrade from the D600. It would depend on what it wasn't capable of doing for me.
On the other hand, if money is no object...do it. Its a better camera (either one).

For the camera shop you purchase from, there is a good deal in your purchasing one.
I know someone who just purchased one a couple of months ago. It does and outstanding job for what it is suppose to do, but hasn't improved his images yet at all. He just has larger files of the same kind of work.
