Hi Jim, I'm interested in the 18-270 or the 18-250 but don't know if they'd work fully with my D5100. Do you know?

After researching it doesn't look like they'll work with my cameras. Thanks anyway. Good luck.
I have the Tamron 18-270 on my 5100. Works great.

Oh really? Hmmmmm. Thanks!
The Sigma 18-250 works well on my wife's d5100 and on my d7100. My favorite "walk around" lens.

As you probably know the D5100 does not have a focusing motor in the camera. Thus if you want the lens to autofocus it has to have focusing motors in the lens. There is a way to tell from the lens designation if it does or not but I don't know it. Check the back of your manual.
All new lenses have the focusing motors in the lens. Older lenses do not.
Lenses without the focusing motor will still "work" but you will have to use manual focus with them.
Perhaps the poster could clarify for each lens.

Hi, thanks for contacting me. All the lenses I offered work well on my D5300. They are all practically new. The reason I am selling them is that I bought a Nikkor 18-300 which replaces most of them. Best wishes, Jim

Hi Jim,
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm still pondering and researching AND need to wait until I get paid for a job I did this past weekend.

Actually, they should.
I didn't realize that the D5100 sensor APS-C since my manual says CMOS. Thanks for your help.
made a mistake. Had the wrong lens in mind.

Both of them will work with the D5100
