Weight is relative

Was on a course about the new aspects of the Nikon D810. A lot of the users had previously avoided full frame DSLR or like because of the weight.

But one of the attendees was deliriously happy about the weight of the D810 because he no longer had to carry his Hassleblad. And there was me thinking of going mirrorless!

Yes, that's for sure. I often go out with a D7100 on my left shoulder and a D610 on my right. One camera or two, it doesn't matter to me. Maybe it's the OP/TECH straps, but the weight is irrelevant.

I get it that some of us NEED lightweight gear and some of us just WANT lightweight gear. And a few just like to whine about size and weight. :)

I've always been of the mindset that a camera body needs to perform at a certain level and accept my lenses. If it can't size and weight don't matter. If it does size and weight don't matter. I'll tolerate it.

My 5DmkIII is much lighter than my RB67 which I hike with. Weight certainly is relative.

I like light weight, but I have found that I can hold a larger heavier camera steadier. So that is one reason I like my D810.

I still carry my Graphic View II 4x5, along with a Hasselblad 500C when I head out to take some photos.

It's all relative. I saw an exhibit of the great early 20th century photographer Paul Strand this past weekend at the Philadelphia Musum. The camera and tripod he carried into the field, year in and year out, would make the size and weight of Canon 1Dx or a Nikon D4 seem closer to a pocket sized point & shoot.

Weight is relative... but only important relative to what you do and need.
