Range testing my newest EF-S "walkabout lens", the Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 II (Canon mount)
This is the first Tamron lens I have ever owned and I finally got a chance to get it outside and test its capabilities. The photographs are not particularly interesting, but they tested the lens at its various focal points, from near to far with overlapping views so you can see the progression. I am very pleased with this for what it does ...... if I have something important to shoot, I'll mount one of my L series lens, but for everything else, this is perfect. You can't beat the range for a DSLR walkabout - the stabilization is very steady as well.
I have owned a Canon 18-200mm and the Sigma 18-250mm in the past. Of this group, I much prefer the Tamron.

They all look pretty good, Bob. All the reviews I've seen of this lens rate it well. :-) :-)
Tamron lenses are very underestimated as can be seen by your photographs here, all having very strong definition and are certainly comparable to Sigma any time.
Well taken.

Thanks Dook. Like you, everything I've read indicates that Tamron has upped its game. The version II series are rock-solid.

Thanks Leicaflex. I suppose I was initially deterred by the "Made in China" prejudice, but for me it's all about performance. It does much better than the Sigma.
They look good and sharp to me. Don't notice much--if any--distortion anywhere along the line. Looks to be a good lens!

Thanks Randy. The finished photos benefitted from a run through Piccure+ for sharpness , and DxO Viewpoint 2 for any distortion correction.

Great shots Bob - I have the Tamron 18-270 and have been considering the 16-300 as it is reckoned to be much sharper - your photos certainly bear this out.

I've heard it rumored that Tamron is making much better glass these days than they did in the past. I know their 150-600mm is getting good reviews. I posted the photos of my test to show other folks what the lens would do at each one of its focal points ...... and I feel comfortable recommending it.

Well you know me Jim, I enhanced each of these a bit in PP, but overall, the lens performs admirably.
