Reading through a number of posts Topaz filters were cropping up so I decided to give their NR a go on the free trial. I have been using both lightroom and photoshop for NR and my results were so so, but that said I never spent hours experimenting across all the possible adjustments to perfect these.
To experiment with topaz I pulled up an old image and used one of their NR standard presets and the results were far better than I had been previously achieving with LR and PS.
Just wanted to say thank you to those who had mentioned these filters. PS I have also used their Clarity filter in this newly processed image
Excuse my slowness this morning--may be due to lack of sufficient quantities of coffee. NR?
I assume noise reduction.
From the example, I am not so sure the Topaz filter is superior to that of Lightroom. The effect looks more grainy, and there's an obvious color shift.
Doduce, I must admit, I too was confused by NR.
brianmen, I have all of the Topaz (Programs, Algorithms) Plugins. I have said many times that I am a mediocre photographer (no one has argued with me on that ) but that Topaz has save me and fooled the CClub judges into thinking I am award level!! Topaz is the spice mix that makes tomato soup into spaghetti sauce.
Thanks dpullum, the plug ins sure look good.

True, but at least brianmen is sticking a toe in the PP water. After watching a few Webinars brianmen will find that it is typical for people to push some of the sliders too far and will learn to back-off a bit. But, I have used Topaz on some of my old 3 mp photos and worked wonders making silk dresses from sack cloth.
Perhaps brianmen could have stated, "I have started playing with Topaz and here is my try on an old photo ... any suggestions?"
brianmen, do keep it up... try some of the others... become a 30day wonder and then buy what you like... and during the holidays Topaz usually runs specials.
