If you didn't expect any comments, why did you even post it ?...The "factual errors" was when you said they had not been manipulated, other than crop. Even back in film days, negatives run thru a processor were subject to color corrections by the processing lab machines. Are you aware of how that process worked ?. Plus images in a book are also manipulated. That was the "factual error"...

How many times do I have to say this. You completely missed the point. Maybe you should start over. Just so you understand, I mean the 1st grade. Next time I start a thread I'll just say I looked at the pictures in a book and leave it at that. :-D

Hang the precise definition of manipulation! I take pains to meter carefully, to avoid over or underexposure in critical areas. I crop to fit the scene only because I cannot adjust my camera's format. I set white balance and let colors fall where they may. I shoot RAW, and adjust sharpness and contrast to my taste. Then I export as TIFF, and print it out. Thus far, I have been immensely satisfied.
If you wish to make a fool of yourself by falsely accusing me of claiming to be a purist and perfectionist, and claiming that the other guy doing it all isn't likely to produce better results, that's your problem.

Recently I purchased a book over 700 pages on how to ID trees and shrubs. The pictures were taken with a Nikon camera, with no post-processing except crop. Using a reference book like that the pictures have their natural color. I don't use PP anymore except to crop and sharpen. Mother nature dose a better job with color. I only like pictures straight out of the camera. If they don't look good I didn't have the camera set right.

I'd guess that the author either used a grey/white card or the X-Rite Passport to set his color balance while shooting RAW, then balanced all images to this one standard. It is the only way to insure consistent results under differing lighting conditions. Opps- I missed the fact it was film- bet it was all one emulsion batch, with a Macbeth chart photographed prior to each sample as a color reference for the printer who did the separations? Someone made everything neutral.

I just go out and have fun taking photos. Guess that must be wrong.

First, since I've been a member of UHH I've enjoyed the discussions. I don't contribute much I usually only read and absorb what I think is important in the discussions that can benefit me in my quest to be a better photographer and discard the rest.

I don't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers but for the life of me I can't figure out why these discussions often end up in a semi flame war. As for me I don't have time to come back home after I've taken some photographs and sit in front of a computer to "diddle" with an overly complex piece of software to "Perfect" my pictures. I work with computers for 8 hrs a day. If I didn't get it right for me I try to do better next time. I realize that the SOOC jpeg is a form of post processing done in camera and its done to the photographer's tastes and no one else. So since any form of post processing is just an opinion of how "you" think the photo should look why do many folks here feel the need to "lecture" a person who doesn't believe in post processing.

Now back to reading the topics.

Good response. I could not agree more. I read posts to inform and educate myself on issues that interest me. I am not interested in tirades and personal attacks that fail to follow the intent of the poster. Being civil is a virtue sometimes forgotten on the forum. Let us all be: polite, courteous, and respectful of all contributors. Obviously the human eye with 20/20 unaltered natural vision is the only "natural" visual attainable by humans; anything less (corrected vision) distorts reality just as a camera does.

Looks like I'm not the one who needs an education as there was no point to miss. Printers don't print the exact same image as they are tendered as the medium is different...Make sure you don't skip Kindergarten... :-D

It comes with our up bringing and our age. We would get smacked by our father if we were disrespectful or not nice. Today is a whole other ball game and its really ashame to see how some people act. A lot has to do with the fact that they are on line. I wonder if they would be so bold face to face. This is a site to learn make friends and mix ideas and to enjoy the hobby. I agree with you 1000000000% keep the faith

Problem is, everyone can see things differently. So what one sees is different in some way to the other.

Now days certain people have no respect for their elders. I wonder how many ever got a spanking or know what it was. I don't even remember how old I was when kindergarten was started. I always enjoy talking to older people, they lived longer so they are smarter just from what they learned in those extra years.

We all see visually the same (assuming 20/20 natural vision)...we just interpret the visual differently. If I ask you to write a short essay on what you see, and I do the same, we will have entirely different perspective on the same visual, and our essays will be completely different...to the point of whether or not we were even looking at the same visual. It is not what we see that is different, but rather how our mind interprets what we see that is different.

That makes sense to me but someone may argue about that.
