Some may have missed the Admins. post that Chit Chat is no longer for controversial issues, The new "Bare-Knuckle" section is "The Attic."
I confess to being baited by those who have chosen to ignore this new rule, mia culpa.

And now, The Razor's Edge

After many hundreds maybe thousands of dollars spent on retail razors, being P.O.'d every time I drained my account just so I could shave I found a solution. Dorco has razors at a fraction of the cost of those at retail. You will find no sacrifice in quality, maybe a gain in fact. Save some money.

I use a modern version of a safety razor and the blades online can be found at very inexpensive prices. You can use plan soap or get a brush and cup or just canned shave cream. I am using the same purchase from two years ago sans soap.

Attached is a picture of my razor with a blade. No manufacturer on the razor. I purchased it online over two years ago. This is what my dad used and i as well for years while young. There has been a resurgence in the use of these and if you do a Google search you will find quite a few vendors in all price ranges.

I am 74 and have used the Gillette adjustable since I was 16. Each one has lasted at least 15 years. I still have a couple of new ones tucked away that I found in an antique store. Double edged blades are a little pricey. They last a long time as I wear a beard and only trim around the edges.

Try EBay for double edge blades. Good prices can be found on Feather,Crystal,Bic and others. IMO Feather blades are the sharpest with Crystal and Bic just behind.

Geez..if you fellows have beards and only trim around the edges, then an old fashioned straight razor should do you just fine with a leather stropping strip and a wet stone. They last forever. Check it out.
Personally though, I use an old Norelco rechargeable triple header that's lasted me 3 decades now with only one set of replacement heads.

I found my blades to last twice as long or longer by "Back Stropping" the blade before each use. I attached a piece of denim to a small board to do this and it works great.

The steel blade becomes unusable because of corrosion, not wear as most believe. Try storing your razor in mineral oil between shaves and you'll discover that they will last a lot longer.

And back stropping makes it last longer as well and is why barbers have been doing it forever. The moisture causes the corroding, my area is arid enough so that this is not a problem. Tried the oil idea and the stropping works better.

Maybe trying each would be sensible since humidity plays a role.

I posted a link to a site that sells leather stropping assemblies and some are like the barber models.

I have started using HARRY's razors and blades and find them equal to the popular brands at about 40% off. I buy these at Christmas Tree Shops. For all I know, they may be manufactured by the same company as Dorco. It is common practice for companies dealing in off-brand merchandise to make products under many names.

 I use Harry's too, and they are equal to Gilette IMHO.

If you use shaving cream, try using BABY SHAMPOO, any brand. I use it while showering, after the warm water softens the beard. Works great for me. I get at least 30 shaves per blade, usually more.
