I had read several comments made by users who have labeled UHH as being "addictive". Because I agree with that assessment I wanted to try an experiment on myself - going "cold turkey" and not posting photos or comments for a week (although I continued to shoot photographs). I kept up with reading all the new articles posted and dearly wanted to respond to some of them, but forced myself not to. It was hard.

I also read that the Canon SX60 had an in-camera HDR capability which I wanted to test out, so I used that week to shoot images solely in HDR mode. The SX60 takes 3 rapid succession shots, then blends them in camera before showing you the final result. In my opinion, this does not work nearly as well as taking 3 separate shots with Exposure bracketing, but it does make for well saturated photos with deep tones.

Thought you'd been abducted by aliens! But I see you were quite busy all the while. Loved the series, Bob. Not typical HDR by any means, but subtle and well done. As always, the low key shots are just gorgeous.

One of the nicer series I've seen posted here, with a lot of variety, and all very appealing. Great work!

Still, might have been more fun to have caught a shot or two of those aliens... ; )

Thanks oldtigger. I usually don't somebody else's word for it, I'm one who likes to go out and try it for myself. You just never know what you will come up with.

Thanks Randy. Yep, I was keeping my hand in the game, just not talking about it. And you're right .... there was a smattering of styles represented here, most of them which have been seen before, but never with the same subjects. That's the interesting part .... scoping out new targets.

Well now I know where you've been for the past little while, great shots; that camera is really working for you. I suppose you'll be selling the X-S1 now. I haven't touched mine since I got my new toy so I could understand if you did. Good job all around Bob.

Thanks for the comment Jim. No, the X-S1 will always have a slot in the tool kit - it still fits my hand a whole lot better, and I love the manual zoom because it gives me much better control than that little pointer on the end of the shutter button. As far as the SX-60 goes, I'm ready to go back to straight Program mode - I didn't see enough of a boost of tonal range for me to keep shooting in HDR mode.

I liked your HDR Bob, but I have to agree; if you want to do it, its better done in brackets and software. I have finally landed on a program mode that I like with my DMC-6 and I can modify it with buttons if I want a different ISO or high speed shooting, so I'm a happy camper now. Just need more time to shoot. Again good job and your hiatus really paid off for you.

Great restraint Bob..... But welcome back. Can't believe that I might have missed the see through barn. I really like the angle and the composition as a whole.

Very nice series with a lot of variety. Looks like the sx60 in your hands is a success. Well done!

Thank you Frodo. You've put your finger on my angst about posting two many photos in one topic .... one of the really good ones might be overlooked. Of this whole group, I liked the see-through barn best. It would have been better if I'd arrived a few seconds earlier ..... what made me stop and turn around as I was driving by is that I could see a lone cow grazing on the hillside, framed inside the doorway. By the time I got back it had left ..... but I shot the barn anyway. As it is, there is a Labrador Retriever in the barn, but not very distinguishable.

Thank you Elliern. You've noticed that this P&S can handle pretty much all of my shooting styles, do I'm quite happy with it. Now I plan to lay it aside for a few weeks and get used to my DSLR's all over again.

Thanks Pierre. These proved to be self-revelatory to me as well ..... seeing all the photos assembled in one place, what was included, what was not, how they were processed, which ones worked and which ones didn't. It's good to review our work every now and then with a critical eye. Overall, though, I was very pleased with the collection.
