During my research for a APS-C camera I kept being drawn to the Olympus OM-D E-M1. I came very close to buying a brand new one but resisted and bought a used NEX-7. The Sony is a fine camera but it isn't the most robust camera for field work. The Olympus has been in the back of my mind and I figured I'd buy a used one in a year or so when more used units hit the market. I really need to quit searching eBay.... Got a really good deal on a used body and last week I bought a 60mm Zuiko Macro to go with it.
Impressions on the camera - very rugged and packed full of features. Most advantageous for the macro shooter is focus peaking coupled with a crystal clear LCD and 100% EVF. Dual dials on the top of the camera and a toggle lever make changing basic exposure functions - ISO, SS, Aperture, and W/B - a breeze. Other notables specs are a 16MP sensor (equivalent FF pixel density of 64MP), no AA filter, EFCS, and in camera stabilization. For those that like to table stack tethered shooting is supported The Olympus Capture software is well done, allowing one to control all camera functions via the computer. I always thought WiFi on a camera was a gimmick until I realized Olympus has a smartphone app that allows basic camera control via WiFi - great for remote control in the field.
Big limitation of the camera is it's u4/3 sensor. In low light / high ISO it's noisy no getting around it. I am getting best results by overexposing by a 1/3 to 1/7 of a stop.
A bit early to judge the lens, but so far I'm impressed. It's a tiny little thing but is delivering crisp shots and surprisingly auto focuses quite well at 1:1. I'm a bit peeved that it didn't include a lens hood. Come on Olympus so many things right with this camera and your going to nickel and dime me for a lens hood!
So far I've only shot natural light, still waiting on my non-olympus lens hood to arrive in the mail. I plan on pairing it with an old FL-36R I have.
Don't think I'll sell my Canon body quite yet but can't say I'll have the same mindset in 6 months.

Thank you RL. I am having fun with the new camera. It sounds like I'll visiting the field quite a bit in the upcoming year. I plan on using the Olympus as my travel camera.
