Kenny has volunteered their WPC Entry to the Photo Critique Forum* to find out what could have done to make it better. Be nice, but be honest as this will help everyone with their craft. Thank you everyone!

This is one of the first homes in Oregon. It is said to be haunted by one of the original owners. Nonsence, right?

First off, I like the image a lot, and had to stop and think what I like and perhaps don't like about it.

The detail in the capture is excellent, and brought out by processing that can only be said to be very skillful. The figure in the upstairs window is amazingly spooky. The uphill view really puts the viewer in the scene.

What would I have wanted to be different? Maybe back off a bit and give the wonderful old structure more room if possible (perhaps there is a reason you can't though). The boarded up window is a bit bright and pulls my eye from the upstairs figure, I might desaturate its orange tone a bit. I would have tired to stand her up a bit if there were more space to work with, but it would crowd this shot to do that. I have a personal objection to noticeable vignettes though I know lots of people like them, I'd back off the darkening at the top of the image.

This would also be very nice in straight monochrome.

Very enjoyable to study in detail, thank you for sharing it here!

Thanks, minniev, for the critique. I was unable to back up much because there was a river right behind me. I will do what I can re the plywood when I get a chance. I did not like it there either but the Park's department would have a fit if it were removed.

The Lauteralls, the original owners were both musicians and provided dance music every Saturday night and folks came from distances to dance. They danced all night to avoid traveling back home in the dark wilderness. Local waterfalls were named after the Lauteralls - quite lovely. Next spring I plan to visit and photograph the falls.
I am a musician myself and the history of the house has been of special interest to me.
