A few samples of my very first attempt at a newborn shoot. She was two weeks old and just over 5lbs. If you have any to share, would love to see them. :)

Here are three pics of my first attempt at newborn photos. My first chance was with twins and unfortunately I was not able to photograph them until they were 3 weeks old so it was not easily done - they were not as sleepy as they would have been in the first 10 days.

You have a great eye for newborn photography. The feet photo is one of the best I've ever seen! My niece has been doing newborn photography for about 6 years. Check out her website - www.arlissajonesphotography.com

Kristine, may I ask you what lens you prefer to use for newborns? Your photo's look much softer in the background than mine do. I used my kit lens 18-135mm on apeture priority mode 5.6 zoomed all the way in. love your photo's, absolutely beautiful shots. :)

I love these, but I think the first one is my favorite. Made me smile big. Great job on twins too...wow.

There is a real science as well as an art to shooting newborns and I spent a lot of time studying it and then later I spent some serious money mentoring with a seasoned pro. I will be honest, it is great fun but it has come at a considerable time invested as well as expense to pull it off properly and professionally.

The shoot has to be done in manual for many reasons and it also is best done in all natural light with a very fast professional grade lens. To use anything less will be obvious. There are a couple lenses you could use and I typically go with L series lenses. But for newborns I found after research and practice I find that most professionals go with a 50mm f/1.4 lens which is what I used. The close up shots should be done with a macro lens

If you are ever interested in taking your photography up a level and want to do some mentoring, let me know.
