When a photo is taken against a strongly backlit subject and results in serious underexposure I recall there was a french term for that. Something like conta jour????
I'm giving a presentation on HDR and would like to be able to reference the term since many in the audience are from french speaking Canada.

Contre-jour.Literally, 'against the day', but of course, a language isn't a code, so exact translations are not always possible, let alone meaningful.

Iduno, I think you would be safer like donrent said and pull one aside, Canadian French is like putting a southern bell on a cow farm in N. Dakota without a nail file. Bad analogy I know but different parts of Canada have their own slang. Good luck and give em he ll

It must be "contre-jour" (against the day(light)or sometimes "contre-soleil"(against the sun) when you take a picture against the light.

It is "contre-jour"(ltterally"against the day=light" or sometimes "contre-soleil" against the sun, when the light source is behind the subject.
